In order for Prince’s Daughter to give a message to her friends who were in the 2 – 5th grade we reached out to The Voice. The Voice is a listened provider who specializes in helping people get through their mental health struggles. Since we use more than one provider to help teach us and make sure we are using the right words for our messages we call them all The Voice.
The message below is the message that my daughter said live to all those in attendance and her friends who came to help her vote who had the best axolotl.
I do think mental health is as important as physical health, if not more important
1. I think a great thing to talk about with 4th and 5 th graders is to know that there aren’t any bad emotions. All feelings and emotions are valid. When adults shame young people for feelings and emotions then the young person is more hesitant to share those feelings and talk about them. We want them to talk to a safe adult that can validate their feelings and help them strategize ways on how to understand the feelings.
2. I like the example of a sponge can only hold in so much water and it’s important to squeeze it out or else it will drip all over. Like our emotions/feelings it’s important to talk about them or we can only hold them in so long and then other things start to be happen I.e we might argue with our friends, bully, talk about others, judge others. When we let out our emotions with a safe adult that can help us understand, we can feel better about who we are and who others are and understand we all have these emotions/feelings.
3. Remembering that everyone handles emotions/feelings differently. Try to understand each other and accept differences.
We all need each other. (The Voice)
